The Story Behind Barre Groove
Meet Our Founder and Team
Meet Alanna
My love for movement started with dance—it was my passion, my outlet, and my way to connect with my body. From earning a degree in dance to becoming a New England Patriots cheerleader, I always knew the power of strong, intentional movement.
But when I transitioned to a corporate job in downtown Boston, staying active became harder than ever. I was stuck in the cycle so many women face—overworked, overscheduled, and trying to squeeze in workouts that never quite delivered. I didn’t just want to move—I wanted to feel strong, confident, and energized again.
That’s when the idea for Barre Groove was born.
I loved the sculpting and structure of barre and pilates—but they always left me needing something more. Cardio felt like a chore, and stacking workouts across studios didn’t fit my life. When I discovered the trampoline, it changed everything. It combined the heart-pumping intensity of cardio with full-body strength work—all while protecting my joints and lifting my mood. And it was fun.
I knew this was the missing piece—not just for me, but for every busy woman trying to feel better in her body without adding more to her to-do list.
Barre Groove was built to upgrade what traditional workouts couldn’t solve: A time-efficient, effective, and energizing fitness routine that actually fits into your life.
It’s more than a workout. It’s a joyful, supportive community of women showing up for themselves—and each other—week after week.
As a mom now, life is busier than ever. But this community has been my constant reminder of what’s possible when you commit to yourself.
Meet Suz
Hi, I’m Suz! I’ve always been passionate about helping others live healthier, more fulfilling lives. I grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts, and attended Haverford College before launching my career in finance at Forrester Research.
My love for cooking, wellness, and helping others in a tangible way led me to start my own personal chef business, Soul to Plate, where I helped clients feel their best through nourishing, delicious meals.
After becoming a mom of two, I shifted my focus to my growing family. My husband, Alex, and I have two daughters, Olivia (4) and Chloe (2), who bring so much joy to our lives. In 2023, I joined the Barre Groove team—it's been incredible to share my passion for wellness, fitness, and community.
At BG, my goal is to make every client feel supported, empowered, and confident in their fitness journey. Whether I’m answering your questions, assisting with bookings, or planning our next member event, I’m here to ensure you have the best experience possible.
Meet Steph
My name is Stephanie. I was born in The Bronx and moved to Massachusetts as a teenager. Growing up, I felt lost and often found myself getting into trouble. For years, I relied on drugs and alcohol to cope, but in 2020, everything changed.
Quarantine gave me the time—and the wake-up call—I needed to face my reality. In August of that year, I made the difficult but necessary decision to quit everything cold turkey. It wasn’t easy, but I turned to movement to clear my mind, starting with long walks. Over time, those walks turned into runs, and before I knew it, I had lost 80 pounds and felt stronger, healthier, and more alive than ever.
I became obsessed with pushing myself further, and when the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon came up, I chased it. After countless applications and rejections, I finally got my shot running for Mass Eye and Ear. But I knew I had to step up my training—and that’s how I found Barre Groove.
From the moment I took my first class at Bijou, I knew this place was special. The energy, the community, and the way movement made me feel—it was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I kept showing up, not just for the workout, but for the people. For the first time, I felt strong in a way that wasn’t just physical.
That’s when I realized: I wanted to be on the other side of the room, leading. I had no prior experience in fitness instruction, but I was driven and passionate. I auditioned… and got rejected. But I wasn’t willing to give up that easily. The next day, I showed up at the studio, poured my heart out to Alanna, and made it clear that this was where I belonged. She took me under her wing, and I worked harder than ever to prove myself.
Now, as Head Coach at Barre Groove, I get to give back the same motivation and belief that once changed my life. Barre Groove is a special place and it truly changed my life. Now, I get to help others change theirs.
